The use of Semaphore Flags in Scouting has a long history that goes back to the origins of the Boy Scouts of America, and goes back even further to the birth of the World-wide Scouting movement! In celebration of our 100th anniversary of the Calcasieu Area Council, we are holding our second annual Semaphore Jamboree!
This event is open to all Scouts, in all councils, of all age groups: Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Sea Scouts and Venturing Scouts at the lake's edge at beautiful Camp Edgewood, on Saturday, November 12th from 9:00 am to 11 am!
The program will include:
-Scouts learning the history of semaphore flags and the rich BSA history of semaphore signaling!
-Learn the basics of using semaphore signaling and the semaphore alphabet!
-Each Scout will receive their own laminated signaling sheet, including phonetic alphabet and Morse Code reference guides!
-Scouts will also be able to make their very own pair of semaphore flags to take home!
-Scouts will be able to practice sending and receiving flag messages!
-Scouts BSA and Venturing Scouts will also be able to compete in a Semaphore Sending and Receiving Messages Team Competition open to Scouts in all councils! Teams will be made up of 4 Scouts. We hope to make this an annual event, so be sure to brush up on your signaling!
Sign-up is only $15! Scouts are encouraged to bring their own lunches, snacks, and personal water bottle.
