2023 NATIONAL JAMBOREE
Registration for the 2023 National Jamboree is NOW OPEN!
Join a group of Scouts, Venturers, and Scouters from across the Calcasieu Area Council attending the 2023 National Scout Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia! We will be participating in all the Jamboree activities and attending the incredible arena shows!
The National Jamboree is a gathering of some 50,000 Scouts, leaders, and staff held only every four years at The Summit Bechtel Family National Reserve.
Scouts, Venturers, and Sea Scouts at the 2023 National Scout Jamboree will enjoy more than 5 miles of zip line and challenge courses, 36 miles of mountain bike trails, and 13 acres of shooting sports ranges, on a sprawling 10,600-acre site in West Virginia designed for excitement! Try out world class venues for kayaking, rock climbing, bouldering, skateboarding, BMX, plus enjoy arena shows and more!
When: July 14-29, 2023
Who: Scouts BSA 1st class and above, born between 7/29/2002 and 7/19/2011. Also, a Venture crew of 8-9 male and/or female youth is also planned, with 1-2 adult leaders.
Led by: Scoutmasters and trained adults selected by the Calcasieu Area Council Jamboree committee.
Organization: We will be set up as a Jamboree troop, with scouts organized into patrols, and youth leaders selected from the group as a whole.
Meetings: 2 mandatory troop meetings and 1 camp-out prior to the jamboree.
- Troop Meeting: September 2022.
- Troop Meeting: February 9, 2023
- Troop Meeting: March 23, 2023.
- Troop Campout: May 27-29, 2023, Camp Edgewood
Meals: All meals will be included in the trip cost. During the journey up and back, meals will be in restaurants. During the Jamboree food will be provided that will be cooked by the patrols.
Patches: A Jamboree council strip will be developed and offered to participants, suitable for wearing or trading.
Goodies: Each participant will receive 2 contingent T-shirts, a cap, a duffel bag, and a daypack.
Uniform: Participants will wear the official BSA field uniform, except at amusement park, rafting, or as agreed upon.
Scouts who want to go to the National Jamboree have to register as individuals through the National Jamboree website. Once registered, Scouts from our area will be assigned to one of the council’s contingent units going to the Jamboree.

Lake Charles, Louisiana 70601 - Complete the National Jamboree On-Line Registration (the 5-digit code that you are given must be put on the Youth Application). You will receive an email where you must accept a Disclaimer Consent. The council will then approve each Scout in the system.

A preliminary budget has been developed based on previous experience and itinerary. Fundraising options will be sent to participants. $500 deposit is due immediately. Payment schedule:

03/01/23 $100(may be adjusted based on final costs)
Here are the prerequisites for youth to attend the Jamboree:
Scouts BSA Scouts
- Must be at least 12 years of age by July 17, 2023 or an 11 year old that has graduated the 6th grade, but have not turned 18 by July 28, 2023
- Participate in pre-Jamboree training experiences in our council, file a BSA Health and Medical Record by deadline and submit all fees by the council payment schedule
Venturers and Sea Scouts
- Must be registered with a Venturing Crew or Sea Scouts Ship and be at least 14 by July 17, 2023 or 13 and have completed 8th grade but have not turned 21 by July 28, 2023
- Participate in pre-Jamboree training experiences in our council, file a BSA Health and Medical Record by deadline and submit all fees by the council payment schedule
